KDE Plasma 6.6 Beta Release – Mobile-focused changes

The KDE project has released the second beta version of KDE Plasma 6.6. This beta is part of the stabilization phase ahead of the final release scheduled for 17 February 2026 and primarily delivers bug fixes.

A significant portion of the changes targets mobile usage scenarios and components used by Plasma Mobile.

New modules in Plasma 6.6 Beta

The second beta introduces several new modules that are relevant for both convergent and mobile devices:

  • plasma-login-manager
  • plasma-keyboard
  • plasma-setup

These modules extend system login handling, on-screen keyboard functionality, and initial device configuration workflows.

Mobile-related fixes and improvements

Plasma 6.6 Beta includes multiple fixes that improve reliability and usability on mobile devices:

  • The lock screen no longer blocks further authentication attempts after a failed login.
  • The timezone picker dialog in the time settings module now displays with a corrected width.
  • In Folio, folder view delegates now correctly use page view delegate dimensions.
  • Drag-and-drop placement in Folio properly accounts for view padding.
  • Coroutine calls have been guarded to prevent runtime issues.

Plasma NetworkManager updates

Updates were also applied to Plasma NetworkManager, including fixes relevant to mobile environments:

  • The connection editor no longer shows a status widget when creating a new connection.
  • Warnings related to unhandled authentication states have been silenced.
  • Text rendering issues in the mobile security dialog have been fixed.
  • Connection item delegates now use direct model access.
  • The mobile network configuration module is no longer shown in bigscreen mode.

Plasma Mobile is an open-source user interface for mobile devices developed by the KDE community. It is designed to work with multiple Linux distributions to provide a flexible and open mobile platform. Built on top of Plasma Desktop technologies, Plasma Mobile adapts KDE’s software stack for portable devices while supporting convergent use cases.
